Building a Custom LS3 Desert Rally Car in 30 Days

Desert Rally Car

Welcome to the Lone Star State, where cowboys still roam and pride runs high. GM has several manufacturing facilities in Texas, so it may very well be the birthplace of the wondrous car (or at least the engine) housed in your very own garage.

Texas is a diverse state, especially when it comes to the vehicles people choose to drive. Even so, sometimes it’s hard to find the exact car you want.

Or maybe that dream car simply doesn’t exist.

Desert Rally Car

For one Texan, this was true. Russell White’s dream car was not a reality. But instead of settling for something else, he decided to put $100,000 (yes, one-hundred thousand dollars) and thirty days into making his dream come true.

What came out of his outlandish endeavor was a stunning and capable desert rally car that was also, surprisingly, street legal. Powered by an LS3 V8, this formidable creation puts out 430 horsepower and delivers 420 lb./ft. of torque.

White sourced most of his parts from Local Motors in Arizona, so maybe it isn’t completely a Texas car. Either way, it was made well and is probably the greatest play toy in the entire state, if not the United States.

Painted white, it has curved panels that remind us of modern day muscle and off-road tires that make you think of a mud truck. We’re sure it gets tons of compliments — and maybe some confusion — when seen cruising down the road. But that’s just a perk on the side, since it was made for kicking up dirt in the desert terrain!

This is definitely one crazy, awesome vehicle with a design that is very original and unique. We’re not entirely sure why it is that White chose to pour so much cash into the vehicle, but it’s certainly something to be happy about.

Check out the video below and decide for yourself whether or not it was money well spent!
