The mighty LS1 V8 can make anything better, even a BMW. Check out the smoke show this LS1 swapped E36 BMW puts on while drifting.

The LS1 just seems to make everything better. It offers the advantage of being small, lightweight, and offers great power out of the box. It is also reliable and take power modification very well. So, it seems like the perfect swap for a drift car. In fact, here in the US it is probably the most popular swap for drifting right now. In this video, Ricer Miata, Chris takes his LS1 swapped E36 BMW to a open drifting event.

The roaring LS1 sounds amazing ripping around the drift course. The tree stump-pulling torque of the V8 turna his tires into smoke with ease. Chris is really enjoying himself and the BMW is preforming well, until one of his rear tires has had too much fun. Like a College freshman under pressure and doing too much it blows chunks. The tire rips up Chris’s rear fender, bumper, and ejects the fuel door. He drove this car to the event and a situation like this would end the day for most people, but not Chris.

He continues to drift the LS1 swapped E36 BMW, putting on a massive smoke show. He is running narrow 16 inch wheels and the V8 is able to vaporize them in a cloud of smoke. At one point while waiting on the grid he notices his transmission is smoking, but thinks nothing of it. The LS1-swapped E36 BMW seems like a match made in heaven. The combination of the small platform and the big V8 are a perfect combination for performance driving. Chris is having a blast and he has the LS1 to thank for it. Toward the end of the day he notices the he is having issues entering third gear. He comments when he did the swap he did not top up the transmission. Watch the video to find out how it turns out.
