LS Fest East 2022 Recap: Burnouts, Drifting, and a Little Rain Made for a Memorable Event

LS Fest East 2022

LS Fest East 2022 in Bowling Green, Kentucky recently wrapped up and as usual provided three days of LS-powered madness.

Being an LS fan at LS Fest East 2022 is like being a hot dog fan entered in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. But instead of gorging on processed meat, you are gorging on every LS-powered vehicle and event you can imagine. And they even sell hot dogs there, if you would like to feast on those as well. And don’t get us wrong, we use the term gorging in the best possible way here. Held at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky on September 9 – 11 LS Fest East 2022 offered something for everyone.

If you are not familiar with LS Fest East (is that even possible?) it is the largest East Coast LS-themed event of the year. There are all sorts of competition events ranging from autocross to drag racing to burnout contests and dyno challenges. Everywhere you look there is some sort of LS-powered fun taking place. And what makes LS Fest East unique is the location. Beech Bend has not only a drag strip but an amusement park. This is truly an event for the whole family to come out and enjoy.

Power

1967 Camaro

The appeal of the LS platform is the big, reliable power it can make. To help demonstrate that is the Dyno Challenge. It is time to put up or shut up when your machine gets strapped down and ready for a pull. There was some serious muscle on display including the 1967 Camaro pictured above that posted up a big 945 horsepower number. The Saturday Dyno Shootout also saw a 1973 Camaro put down 708 horsepower, a 2020 Camaro put down 543 horsepower and a 2002 Camaro put down 539 horsepower. The takeaway here is it might not be wise to pick on the Camaros.

Power and Skill

LS Fest East 2022 also included a drifting competition. Everyone put on a great show, but the winner was Jonathan Nerren in his LS-powered Nissan Silvia. In the burnout contest Roman Atwood took home the win in his 1964 Chevrolet Impala. He not only burned up his tires, but he burned up his wheels. It was a hell of a show, and he was a deserving winner.

Drag Racing

Drag race

The cool thing about the amusement park at Beech Bend is that it includes water rides. But as it turns out Mother Nature provided plenty of water. Due to inclement weather race officials had to cancel all drag racing competition eliminations. That was truly unfortunate, but it did not damper the event that much. There was still plenty for everyone to see and do even without the always popular drag race eliminations.

As of this writing a list of all competition results has not been published. But you can click HERE to see them when they are posted. That concludes the LS Fest 2022 event calendar. If you missed any of the three weekends you will have to wait until next year. If you have never before attended an LS Fest event, be sure to rectify that in 2023. You will not regret it.
