LS2-Powered 1964 Chevy II Is One Sweet Autocross Project

LS2-Powered 1964 Chevy II

Designed to do autocross and drive longer distances, this 1964 Chevy II can certainly do it all.

Autocross has long been a popular form of motorsport for many years now, and for good reason – it’s one thing that pretty much anyone can do, and in pretty much any kind of vehicle. Sure, you may not exactly be able to pilot your clapped-out project to victory and take home prize money right off the bat, but it’s still a fun and challenging event that can help hone your driving skills. However, the 1964 Chevy II autocross project currently being pieced together by LS1Tech member 64Chevy2 is far nicer than most.

The owner introduced us to his project in this thread, seeking a bit of feedback on the camshaft that comes with the LS2 powerplant he’s purchasing to put in the car. That particular combination looks to be a potent one, with the light weight of the 1964 Chevy II making it both nimble and quick in a straight line, with the right powerplant underhood. But since this car will also serve as a Pro Touring rig, it has plenty of amenities such as air conditioning and a full interior, too.

That powerplant is a 6.0-liter LS2 that’s been bored and stroked, as well as fitted with 11:1 flat top pistons, rebuilt heads with new springs, an LS6 intake, 92mm throttle body, a Holley Terminator setup, and 1 7/8″ long tube headers feed exhaust gases through three-inch pipes. It’s mated to a proper Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels via a 9″ Moser rear end stuffed with 3.55 gears and 26″ tall tires.

On the outside, this 1964 Chevy II looks pretty amazing too, thanks to its gold paint and blacked-out trim, as well as a set of timeless American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. It’s the type of car that can rack up looks and trophies at car shows, as well as awards at the track, which makes it the perfect weekend toy, in our humble opinion. Better yet, it’s totally docile and capable of driving longer distances on the street as well, which is what makes LS swaps so compelling in the first place.
