LS7-equipped Saturn Sky is Ready for Intergalactic Take-off
Here’s a Z06-powered, 2007 Saturn Sky with enough pony power to take you to Saturn itself.
We’ve come across some interesting choices for LS motor hosts. Some that are well deserving of all that extra horsepower and torque, and some that are seemingly questionable. This time, though, it’s just right. A Saturn Sky, which was originally built to make small roadsters (we’re looking at you, Miata MX-5) a little anxious. Now, with a 7.0 liter V8 making 505 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque as opposed to any of the inline-four options that made 325 hp at best, this Saturn is ready to take on just about any roadster. After taking this car to the dyno, the final results were 437 hp and 423 lb-ft of torque. Which is still a large number for a car that weighs only 2,940 lbs stock.
Thankfully, this Texas born dream boat was done tastefully by Mallett Performance Cars. Those who fixed up this Sky also updated the cooling system with a dual-core aluminum radiator, as well is a dry-sump oiling system. Additionally, as GM Authority says, the original five-speed in this car was swapped out for a six-speed Tremec manual paired with a Luk Pro Gold clutch. That way, the driver is better able to harness the power roaring underneath the hood. For the car to handle the extra couple hundred horses, the Sky was also due for custom half-shafts and drive shaft.
The interior, which was classy to begin with, was left unmodified. One thing we couldn’t help but notice is the fact that on the odometer, there’s only 6,000 miles on the clock. Meaning that this muscle-roadster has a lot of spunk left in it for some seriously spirited driving.
Suspension wise, the Sky didn’t need much to make it handle nicer. Mallett only needed to add performance shocks and springs, a custom rear control arm made from polyurethane, and rear differential bushings. For safety’s sake, they also fitted the Sky with a upgraded brake kit that features larger, black calipers and slotted rotors.
This Saturn, in all its glory, will be put up for auction in its home state of Texas by Bring a Trailer ending tomorrow. The starting bid is currently at $37,000, despite the modifications done by Mallet bringing the worth up to $47,000. Check out the original listing here.
