Tuned ZL1 Spits Fire on Houston Dyno
Flames are, in general, not what you want to see coming out of your car. Heck, even painted flames can be a little corny. That said, fire spitting exhausts will never go out of style.

There’s something innately satisfying when you back off the throttle and the exhaust cackles with unburnt fuel. It’s part of the allure of owning a performance car. From Ferraris to Firebirds it’s the same thing. 510 Racing in Houston apparently has the same infatuation that I do.

They recorded this while doing ECU tuning for the new ZL1. In addition to creating an ungodly ruckus, the car burps flame when the driver backs off the gas. Nothing catastrophic. Just a bunch of unburnt fuel being pushed into hot exhaust piping, very, very quickly. Sweet.

I’m curious to see what kind of power they were able to get out of the ZL1 with just a tune. Lingenfelter, Hennessey and other garages have already dropped their cars into the tens. In any case, it’s good to see newer cars getting worked on. They’ll probably get the whole rolling flame thrower thing worked out in the end, but part of me hopes they don’t. A little bit of overrun never hurt anybody right?
