Some pics. Not very good lighting, but the quality on this thing looks excellent.

Just a "ten bolt". Nothing to see here.

I think every guy on here can honestly say "Speedtigger has a nice rear"

Not that there's anything wrong with that

That is how I feel. I always worried about the old 10 bolt. Now I can worry about the pistons and rods.

That paint job rekindled my love for these wheels.

Started to gather parts for the work horse. Engine locked up on New Years morning. Got a freshened 6 liter LQ4 short block, I'm
Porting a set of 853 heads that will bump compression and flow probably 30-40 CFM over the 317s. Using a GM hotcam, ordered a set of 1 7/8 headers with Y pipe. Need head gaskets and finish porting the heads so they can get a valve job. Then I'll be able to get the couple odds and ends together gasket wise, put her back together and it will do till the tune is done. Already has the rear 02 deleted.

Should make for a much improved tow pig. Will still be a turd off the line with the 33s and 3.73s, but a quick 60
Is not the purpose.

I am almost finished up with my W series (348/409's) stroker build and so I'm looking again at getting back on my first LS build. I figured here was as good a place as any to post about it.

I've been gathering parts for a carbureted build for several years here and there and getting close to putting something together.

So far I have a couple of ways I can go:
2006 GTO LS2 6.0L aluminum short block with 36k miles and needs the crank turned and new bearings. Actually the whole bottom end looks nice except for the #6 rod bearing, but it didn't spin....just starting to make some noise.

2013 Silverado L96 6.0L cast iron long block with 13k miles.....I haven't taken it apart, but the truck was apparently ran off into a kaolin pond and the engine flooded. It came in making some noise and had it's normal 6 quarts of oil plus at least a gallon of water in the crankcase.

I've got a set of 1 7/8" longtube fenderwell headers that will fit my old '61.

Bought a Comp hydraulic camshaft on here way back in 2011. It is a brand new custom grind that the buyer had spec'd by Vengeance Racing for a 402 with L92 heads, but he ended up going a different way and I got it for a great price.
Specs are: 250*/266* @ .050", .596"/.596", 112* LSA, 108* ICL.
Probably should be tighter for a carb, but maybe the wide LSA will help with Valve to piston clearance. For the price I paid, I'm pretty sure it will be close enough to keep me happy.

For an intake I bought one of those el cheapo Single plane LS3 4500 series intakes off Ebay for $125 shipped and I had $28 in Ebay bucks already so figured it was worth a shot.

I don't have a dominator series Holley anymore to put on it, but I do have a HP 950 with a Quick Fuel billet base that has both 4150 and 4500 bolt patterns.

That's it so far, but I figure it is a decent start. What do ya'll think of the combination so far? And which short block should I use and why?

Sounds like a stout build. I think you should use the LY6 and send the LS2 block to me. :p

The POR15 on the rear has kicked and is hard as nails. Also, installed the spherical control arm bearings in the housing. Should be in the car tonight for the drive shaft measurements.

The driveshaft did not want to come out of the transmission. Turns out the yoke was twisted. Had to pull out the BFH to get it out. Going aluminum on the driveshaft this time.
