Well after a lot of hard work and determination the 408 is alive!!! Alive and well I should add. I am currently breaking in the new engine and the tune is far from perfect. As soon as I log the miles on the engine its heading straight down to Pcmforless and have Alvin Anderson work his magic. I was seating the rings in today with some short burst from 1500 rpm's through to around 3500 and let her decelerate and did this several times. I had to be careful as I was in second gear doing this and she was spinning the tires in that short of a burst. This thing is going to be so different from the 6.0 I had in there. I cant wait till the odometer hits around 750 miles and I can let her fly. I am still amazed at the difference in the mannerisms between the two engines! I will try to post a vid of the new engine but I would prefer to wait till everything is right first. There is a car show/ test and tune coming up in the middle of April but I am afraid I wont have everything done by then. We'll see what happens. I can say for sure now that the money I spent on this stroker was money well spent!

I do have stock leaf springs on her now. They are 5-leaf. I do not have any wheel hop issues so far to date. Do not make the same mistake I made when I bought my first set of multi-leafs. The first set were made by JRSpring and it was what my local resto shop sold. What a piece of crap spring those were. When I first put them in, my car was jacked up soooooo high the shocks were fully extended. Every time I drove the car it would drop approximately an inch. It continued to do this until the rear end was sagging. I added a leaf which helped but the ride sucked. I finally went to my auto spring dealer and he had a direct set for my car that has worked like new money since installed. I cannot remember the brand name. If you would like to, you can call him and ask what he has and how much they are. I think I paid in the neighborhood of $185 for the pair. The owners name is Clark and the number is 336-723-7001 their business name is AutoSpring. You ought to see Clarks 73 Camaro BBC with an F1 supercharger on it full cage and the list goes on....!!!!

Edit: Make sure you get the correct set of springs for the perches welded on your rear end. Clark suggested to me to leave the upper rubber insulator in but remove the lower one. He said he has seen where the lower has caused issues on some cars where a lot of power is applied.

Stop making the 408 sound so awesome. I have a devil on my shoulder telling me my rust problem deserves a $2k rotating assembly.

Congrats on getting 'er running. Let us know how the tune goes!

Wishful thinking I know!!! I built this engine with high enough compression so that a supercharger/turbo would not be a future option. Maybe this will curb my spending a little. Of course there is always a little laughing gas in the future. If I ever get this car to hook then we will talk NOS!!!
I dunno, I'm kinda crossing my fingers you'll be the first to do the swap when Chevy comes out with a Gen V engine

What are the specs on the 408? *EDIT* Found 'em.

Trying to calculate the damage ($) for your shortblock build. Not that I'd want to do anything like it.

I have a total of $5700-$5900 in the conversion from the 6.0 to the 408ci!!! It better run good for a long time.
