Picked up this sweet roof from a Ford Flex today. As if I needed more metal work. But I have been looking for a sunroof for years. The Flex has a very flat roof front to back, and the side-to-side curve is a close match to the van. The front is a power sunroof, the back is a panoramic panel that has (2) see-through sections in the front of it, and one large see through section towards the rear of it. I also grabbed the headliner that I will use for the built-in sun shades for each section. Should be cool!
Started on the Mustang II suspension. Took out the old suspension, and cut out the original front frame rails. Started making new frame rails out of 3x2 3/16” tubing. I have everything level and square. The new rails are parallel with each other. Ready to start laying out the crossmember and making the cuts on it.
Finally got the drivers side inner wheel well cut out and assembled the suspension and put the van down on its own weight on the drivers side. The ride height is exactly where I wanted it. I also have great turning radius that clears everything.
I also made a jig so that I can rotate the steering rack to make new mounts. The rack obviously needs to aim forward not rearward like normal cars. This jig allows me to keep the rack in its original up/down and forward/rearward position and simply spin it until it lines up with my steering linkage.
Finally got the suspension put together and pushed the van out on all fours to check the stance. Now to take it all apart one last time to paint the A-arms, etc. Bonus security camera shot of the Ford Flex roof.
