The G-Body Swap Thread
#522
Finally tackling this swap. And I just HAD to register at LS1Tech...:-D
So has anyone been successful with the truck intake? I just sat mine in for the first time, just to get a bit of motivation. It actually did the opposite of that. Looks like an LS1 intake and rails are in my future. My question would be, how much lower does the engine sit with the f-body pan as opposed to the 5.3 truck pan? I know the f-body pan is little bit under 1" shallower at the front of the motor, is this enough to get the intake to clear the hood? And what is the best method for relocation of the alternator?

It's just hanging on the hoist right now. I'm going to be fabbing my own mounts. I just lowered it down as much as possible to see if it was going to be possible for the alternator and truck intake to clear.

Holley engine mounts
Merv, actually they are NOT on Ebay. Yes, you can get plate adapters all over ebay. I posted this up because others may want to use thier stock clamshell mounts with this instead of a BRP mount or changing to an earlier style rubber mount with the plate. Just another option. I can tell you after seeing both the Holley El Camino Verde and the Hot Rod Magazine 79 Z28 which both used this set up on last years Power Tour I was very impresssed with the quality and cleanliness of the swap. It goes together like OEM. Again, another choice, maybe not for you, but I shared it for others like myself that have been waiting for this set up to become available. Best of luck on your Monte, it looks like a lot of fun with that 408. Sounds great.

Are you running PS? If so, do you have a pic of your line setup? And what kind of modifications did you have to make to get the alt to clear? And how far above the crossmember is your pan hanging? Mine sits a good bit lower then yours, so I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a pan for it. I need to keep telling myself about the "long run"...
