Would a 30" tire slow me down?

I've been running 28" tires for years, but since I went TH400 I would like to go to a 30" not only for traction but to lower rpms while driving. I was thinking about getting the 315/60/15 or the 295/65/15.
I'm trying to go mid-upper 9's, I shift at 6500, TH400, 3.73 gear, 4000 stall. Currently making 615 RWHP through the TH400, motor makes around 800-850 crank HP.
Also, while I'm at it, why are cars "faster" on radials than slicks? Is it just rolling resistance?

Not sure on slippage, haven't got to run this setup yet (yay winter!). Its and FTI convertor and they claim 2-3% slippage. My best trap speed was 139.3 with 28" slicks and a 4L60E locked in third. MPH is usually around 136-137 so far, don't have alot of passes.
I just wanna make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot going taller. I ran the 4L60E unlocked and didn't hit my limiter, not sure how the TH400 will fare.

Back on topic, I'd make some test hits before making a tire change. Too many variables to be guessing with the new combo.
FWIW, my car picked up 1 mph and 1 tenth going from 28" ET drags to Hoosier 295 dr's which are about 29.5"
Just to give you some comparison #'s..this car runs 9.9's at 133 with 295 Hoosiers, 5000 stall, 4.10's, th400. Goes thru the traps about 6800.

I think the 30" tires look good when the proper off-set is used. We didn't have to tub our car. It just took some strategic BFH work.
The radials provide a much stiffer sidewall and radial ply that greatly reduces rolling resistance. The other benefit is how the make the car much more stable going down the track.

Madman got mine looking great sitting on 30's out back. Stock length rear with 15x10 7.5 bs wheels tucking tire. I'll load pics later.
One day I'll get back to the track and see what the taller tires do for me.
