Last time I weighed my car, it was at 2985 lbs, I've taken some weight out since then. I'm looking for a 2800lb race weight, it won't be the lightest out there, but it will definitely help me reach some goals with the car and be a little easier on parts.

My question is...

Why?

What I mean is....

Why an iron block and what are you intending to do with the car.... track only, street strip, street drag car???

There are plenty of guys here who have cut weight and really have "Potato Chipped" these cars to nothing. So it really depends on what your doing and how much are you willing to give up.

If weight is a factor, your going to spend more $$$ to get lighter parts to compensate for the Iron block at the front of the car. It would be better to have Mild Steel suspension parts and a aluminum block up front, then trying spend more in lighter parts to compensate for a heavy nose.....

That is my opinion but until we get a better guage of what your doing. UNLESS it is budget reasons only, you should not need a iron block up front when it comes to shaving Race Weight.

I throw it out there just becuase I need to cut weight and my "Mentor" JL is very honest about locking my T tops, and holding on the key and "buck knifing" my A/C Belt off and leaving a gapping hole where the radio was and if I can handle that, then I am ready to move on......

Man I feel like I am in Star Wars......

i just picked up a roller and was wondering whats a "good" light weight for it, its gonna be a turbo car so the added weight for the pipes, turbo, iron block is gonna add on so i need to shave a few 100 pounds out of it, shooting for 9's if possible with a 5.3 88 turbo

Check out the pics of Tom Kempf's Firebird in his thread (The Money Shot). They've done some pretty clever lightening on the roof structure.

jugger or magus were light about 2650s

getting under 2999 cost some money. There were all the $200-$500 for 20#s per mod, adds up fast. over just the normal stuff, getting to low 3000 is easy.

I own Magnus' old car. I have yet to weigh it, but I will if the weather allows. Its still LS1 powered, aluminum block, full interior minus rear seat, roll bar, etc. I've removed a few more lbs since I got it, and have another 50 or so I can pull. Not sure I can hit his 2650 though.
