Did you have the box checked or updated over the winter?

I have heard of many bs3 problems and have had some Fast xfi problems myself. Stock pcm for the slow cars.

I really dont understand how a company can build something as specialized as the BS3 and not be able to do it right. Boeing makes airplanes and they dont seem to have issues with planes going down from computer glitches, If I had to design a computer that was smaller than most text books I think id get it right the first time. It really sucks that their problem just wiped out thousands of dollars worth of parts on the very first pass, with any luck itall up and running and earning Wally's in no time at all!

Damn ! sorry to hear that Brian.

How can you ever trust that box again?
I know its a long shot but Anything BS3 will do to help pay for repairs?

Going on 4 years now without a problem from our FAST XFI (knock on wood).

If that happened to us 1st pass of the year we might be done for the season, hope to see you back out soon.

You're a funny man...I almost fell out of my chair laughing

Its a hate/hate relationship trust me on that. I know now to never trust anything in there and to verify every setting every upload. changing systems isn't in the cards...too much invested in the dash, wiring, etc.

I don't have a cost yet...so I'm hoping it isn't too bad.

It is a bitch sometimes.

Classic FAST-

Make change, done. Try to close software, "want to save file?" yes, saved. Click one button, pull up last data log.

BS3-

Make change, oh ****, why do I need a WW2 German enigma machine to decode my VE table.

Save file? Yes. Hmm, save file means delete everything I just changed? Nooooooo!!!!

Hmm, where is that datalog. I'll just go through the 10 random folders it ends up in, or disappeared altogether.

Other than that, it works great. Usually.

that "perfectly good motor" is worth more than my whole car+ parts+labor. It would be one thing if the BS3 was designed for small stuff but this is a system designed to support 2xxx whp setups that are 30k+ jsut in the motor. From a 3rd party perspective this is a unit that is jsut not up to par with its claimed capability's.

Wow Brian that totally sucks. Best of luck. If you had interest in a Holley EFI let me know I'd could see if they could try to help you out.

figures a "standard" repair sleeve won't work since we have to weld up the block in areas

Here we go.....

A thought I had: You mentiond that the sleeves are very "hard" material, at least they seemed to be during the machining process. What is going to be used as a replacement sleeve, and will it be the same rockwell/type of material? Just wondering if you will have issues with a couple holes that behave difference....

Cool. Hopefully they can get the sleeves to him, at least in the same material as the original ones, that would be good.

Welcome to the world of low volume/ no warranty/ specialty items for high horsepower hotrods. Everything you buy for cars like his (and faster) is quirky on it's best day.

I don't work for big stuff but I can tell you from personal experience that the piece is up to the task. But you have to stay with it and check all tables if the box has been sitting for a long time. Same thing with the AMS 1000, MSD programmables, and RacePak acquisition systems.

This ain't bolt-on land no more, Toto!

everything for HP built cars is no warranty and such so I understand that (all too well ), It just seems like BS3's tend to have issues with lots of guys and some regularity, more so than I would be comfortable with when talking about such a crucial component. Ive never heard of issues with the ams or racepak, the MSD's (I assume) have many more units out there so seeing bad pieces isnt surprising.

I guess i could say i see it in a percentage, and they seem to have a fairly significant % of bad units in comparison to others, although many of the other PCM systems have not been on the market as long.
