Even the bad experiences are still good experience because as you stated, you know your truck very intimately.
I'm gaining the same experience with my current project, learning where all the wiring goes, removing some, adding others.
But it's all good because I'm getting to know the car better and better.

Just to defend this guy a little there are minor differences lifter to lifter. Some of them have a single groove cut into the body where others have 2 grooves. I noticed it initially also but appearance can and will vary part to part even with the same brand.
I looked it up and apparently Delphi, Eaton, and Johnson all have produced these lifters for mellings and they had slight differences like the single or dual grooves. It also says there were no critical differences that would affect performance or usability if they are used together.

sounds like its all the same **** just with a different name on it. If the companies i listed are making them then whats difference in for say buying a Delphi or mellings lifter?
Edit- but like you just did time is a factor at times too. Alot faster to go to the parts store vs waiting from a dealer or online
I agree on alot of parts, aftermarket replacement parts mainly. Most of it is made by the same company and sold to the various name brands. Performance aftermarket not so much. And the legit OE stuff is usually of a better quality but it depends on the part.

what is a genuine LS7 lifter though? Have you even done a comparison? Powell has a nice debunk on ls7 lifters, there's no such thing.
have you watched Powell's video on the "ls7" lifter? He does a comparison video on a few them with a few others and shows how they dont exist.

He got the info straight from Delphi.
My only other thought would be that perhaps the original LS7 lifter went through a more rigorous QC standard since those engines were hand built.
Might the same difference be in the lifters mentioned is that some have better quality standards then others?
So I went on Rock Auto and looked up the PN for the 2009 LS7 lifter, then looked up 2005 5.3 lifter, same PN.
I bet they call them LS7 lifters as a marketing ploy which makes sense.
