Default Ati D-1sc Vs Sts Turbo

D-1SC/P-1SC and STS owners I would like some feedback good or bad on both these units. This is a daily driver 2002 SS M6 with a stock LS1 Just most bolt on's. I drive 50-250 miles a day and would like to maintain at least 20 MPG. It has to be depenable and most of all FUN!!! to drive. Lots of TQ. I think you get idea. Not a drag king or a dyno queen. Current dyno is 362/370 I know that I can do a H/C and make 425-450 hp for about the same amount money I think that I would like to try the F/I route making 450-500RWHP?. So owners of these let me know your experiences please. I am flexable and open to sugesstions. If I left any thing out let me know. I am thanking all of you in advance. I am a fifty year old newb so take is easy on me please.

I got back 40-60 miles per tank with the turbo

Its alot more fun then the SC, plus no belts, no slippage, no cruise buck at times.

Im going to go for 800 rwhp+ with my new motor and the same turbo, I will keep you guys updated.

PurEvls numbers are very impressive... but keep in mind.. he has more then the average F-body. Built motor and all.

It took me a good couple months to figure out which route I wanted to go... I decided on the D1SC. Should be getting installed very soon, have all my parts ready.. should be in within a month or so.

ATI is coming out with something soon that will remedy belt slip... I get to be a guinee pig for it.

You will be get much more future improvement out of the turbo if you so desire. The ATI is a nice unit but will act very similar to the turbo for power curves and low end lag. PSI for PSI the turbo is more efficient and will provide the increases I think you are looking for.
Initial cost will be lower with the ATI as you should update the STS kit with an IC or alky/water injection to go above the 5psi level.
Lots of beef with ATI and other centrifical SC setups for belt slippage, noise, and lag. Also harder to increase boost down the road and you will eventually hit a stop on pulley diameter.

I do realize he does not have the average F-body. Tell me how you decided on the D1SC. I assume that are looking for same thing that I am?

700 for turbo upgrade(which he doesnt need) and 250 for intercooler( a must in my eyes)., forgot about that part, thanks.

As for price 3900 for my entire sts with gt70 and 250 for intercooler. So call it 4200. Full ati d1sc kit with 8 rib upgrade and bov, 6000+

Slowhawk has plenty of stock fbodys with p1/d1 and sts t60-67 cars. The sts cars with fmic (ati comes with there own) always show more power.
Its all in what you want, I dont think your going wrong with whatever you choose.

Even with a FMIC, the STS system comes in at a lower price.
And from that point on, everything you have to get for the STS (fuel, tuning, Etc.) you have to buy for the Pro-charger.

I'm bias for sure but the following STS stuff would get you there:
STS Base kit,$3995
Dual Stage Boost Controller $150
Methanol Kit $500
Tune $500
Injectors $350
$5,500 Full Retail for an Easy 500 rear wheel horsepower. The cool thing about that set up is you can cruise around town at 5 PSI but turn the boost up to 9 PSI when you want to go really fast. A intercooler is a bit more and it's going to require more fuel. The Methanol kills two birds with one stone by lowering your intake temps about a 100 degrees and adding tons of octane. Methanol is so nice on your motor.

Don't forget the exhaust mods you'll need for the ATI.

I'm sure you can find a dealer that can you a great price rather then paying $5,500, you have probably already had a couple send you messages by now.

Here's my personal experience:
My car, see numbers below: My buddy's car 2001 SS 6-speed ATI at 7 Psi, he dynoed at 407 rwhp with 430 rwtorque. So my car dynoed at 2 pounds less boost but made more power then the ATI! Our cars are identical with about the mileage.
A Turbo is more efficient and I do get better gas mileage. Going to SEMA at 5PSI I got 30 MPG on the highway doing 85/90 with my 6-speed.

If you could sell the catback to somebody, then the STS would be a pretty good deal for you, IMHO.

Im running an ATI D-1SC setup and love it... The whole cost for my 8 rib setup(No belt slip) is around 5K with the fuel system. I drive the car everyday and its making around 400rwtq at 3Krpm and 500rwtq at 4400RPM. Keep in mind this is with 8psi and stock bottom end engine running a conservative tune. With a built bottom end and 15-18psi this setup will net over 700rwhp. The vette guys are making almost 800rwhp with the D-1SC. EPP is running 15psi with the ATI setup with no problems and making close to 600rwhp on a mustang dyno(close to 700rwhp on a dynojet) on stock engine. The nice thing about the D-1SC is that u can make 450rwhp if u want and close over 700rwhp if u want without changing a turbo to suit your setup which could add more lag. The throttle response is awsome too with a blower which feels like a N/A engine. On the road course my car respond really fast when i need more gas instantly.

It all comes down to what u really want, do u want a whinning sound or a whoosh sound. Do u want brutal midrange or better low end (under 4K RPM) or endless high end (over 6K rpm). You have to make up your mind on what u want . Good luck.

I think your buddy's tune was a lil off. he should be nearing 500rwhp with a good tune...no doubt w/ 7 psi... my .02.

To add to what u said.... My car made 530rwhp 480rwtq with 7psi when i maxed out my 42lbs injectors and we had to shut down around 6200rpm. Its all in the tunning.
