4.10 Positive Review (m6 here)
So I switched from 3.42's to 4.10s the other day and so far LOVE IT. The main reason is the amazing acceleration, although 1st and 2nd are almost useless, once I get traction its awesome, its like no more waiting to get in my powerband anymore. Since my cam and heads swap last year I haven't been able to drive my car like I used to around town, (getting into 6th gear at places, cruising at like 1700rpms, etc)
Now.. I once again can, it no longer bogs down when I fall below 2k even with the mild cam. I'm actually getting BETTER gas mileage then I was before, im closer to what I was getting stock now thanks to being able to keep the rpms lower and highway really isn't a big deal, its still a low 2k (2300ish) at 80mph in 6th gear. Well worth it mod for any m6 thinking of doing the switch. It's as if they were meant to have these gears, they are just plain awesome, all positive on this side! I got motive's by the way.

this is cool. nice write-up. I'm debating on getting 3.90s. I'm not to familiar with gears and the swap. I'm just trying to replace my stock gears for motive 3.90s. What all do i need to swap? Just the ring and pinion? Where did you purchase them from? Is the install expensive? thanks

Well I got my gears actually used from a member on here cause he said they whined, (installed incorrectly) for really cheap. They were motive 4.10s and had a couple hundred miles on them, I got the full rebuilt kit from ws6 store and that was basically it. They don't whine at all which im happy for haha. I think the install would be around 2-400 but I gave my friend a little bit to do them since he has done it a few times on his fbody already.

2K at 80mph with 4.10s. i thought my 3.42 gears were that. anyhow sounds like your car is more fun to drive. this is something i also need to do but waiting for mwc rearend to go in at same time!!

I don't mess with rearend stuff, my buddy did it for me, I was with him the entire time but I still wouldnt wanna mess with it. It doesnt seem to hard honestly but its getting the gears to sit right, not to tight, not to loose, that can get confusing. I have my stock 10bolt yet to, and yes 4.10s are just perfect for a cam setup!

I got a A4, would 3.73 or 3.90's be my best best? Stock rear end 228/232 cam and bolt ons. I swapped my ole' crappy 2.73's for 3.42 but I suspect they might be a lil long after i get it back on the road with the cam.
