Default MPG, don't care...but holy ****

Even though my LS1 TA is my only car, I don't care about the mileage it gets because I love it and I can afford it. But just for ***** and giggles I set the trip meter after a full fill up at the gas station and was amazed at how many miles I got before it got down to "E"...barely 200 miles. That's about a half mix between city and highway driving with not ever getting hard on the throttle.

Is everyone experiencing the same?

I wouldnt run you tank to E all the time, the fuel actually cools the fuel pump.

That's about what I get. Curvy 2 lane roads, some city, some WOT on the only passing lane before I get home. With Auto trans and heavy foot. 200 per tank seems low.

dmcgill, you are a little low on MPG since you say you hardly ever get into it. Not real bad, but you should get 200 miles out of a tank even if you giv'er.

Check the regular culprits like plugs, wires, O2's, air filter, tire pressure, extra gear in the trunk. Little things add up.

Injector cleaning might also help.

How big is your tank? Miles per gallon are a lot different than miles per tank. I get about 400 miles per tank in my LS1 RX7, thats ~23mpg city with a 3.90.

The easiest way to calculate your true MPG is to fill the tank and reset the trip odometer. Drive, then fill up again. Divide the miles by the number of gallons in the second fill up.

Sounds like you may have a problem, check the usual suspects, plug condition, wires, filters (air and fuel filter), dirty maf. Make sure you have no codes.

200 miles is when I really get on it 90% of the time or pure city with lots of idling and stop and go. 250-300 is my mixed, and a possible 400 for all highway.

Sig says the power I'm running, cam only + full bolt ons and suspension.

I have heads and a 9 inch ready to go in and I don't expect the heads to cut my mileage much if at all, but rather help it due to better efficiency of flow. The 9 inch will add a bit more rotational weight, but barely 1-2mpg at most as the higher gears will allow me better street ability to offset the weight, and highway will still be within the low cruise rpm.

I thought our fuel pumps sat in a "bucket" so that fuel always surrounded and cooled the pump even when the fuel level is quite low?

Yes, on a '99 - '02 you can run the tank until no more fuel comes out and the pump will still be submerged in fuel.
