Default G8 GT or 05 CTS-V

Wanting your guys opinions on what my next car should be. Im looking at either a 08-09 G8 GT or a 04-06 CTS-V. All I will do to the car is probably bolt ons and MAYBE eventually heads and a mild cam. This car will be my daily driver in everything EXCEPT snow. The G8 will cost more then the CTS-V and the CTS-V comes with a manual and more horsepower.

What do you guys think I should buy and why?

I would take the G8 simply because it's newer and not too fond of the V's interior at all.

If a manual transmission is a must for you, then the choice is clear. But besides that, the G8 has in my book the better looks and interior. Power is negligible as they should be pretty close in performance to each other, especially after some modding.

The G8 GXP came with a manual but they are very rare & pricey. The CTS-V came with 3.73s stock and they weigh less than the G8. I prefer the caddy exterior & G8 interior. Beware of early CTS-Vs as they have diff problems. I belive the 07 Vs have the stronger rear & you should double check with the V owners here. Good luck, John

CTS-V. After owning our G8 GT, I would have rather had a CTS-V or at least the G8 GXP. Our interior on our 09 is looking rough and suspension rattles quite a bit.

There both nice looking cars IMO. If you really want a "manual" then like mentioned before, the choice is very clear. Unless you want to pony up for the G8 GXP. Which i still see in the $30k plus range.

Performance wise, i think both will be very close to eachother in stock form. Dont pay attention to the power ratings, G8's are detuned from the factory. They do have stock L92 heads & Ls3 intake manifold (according to g8board info). With mods they really wake up.

As far as issues go, whether its a new, used or old car. There all going to have some kind of issues. Which im sure you already know that. Just look around and see what you come up with, i do wanna say that i believe the stock bushings on the G8's are 1 of the issues they have. check g8board.com or grrrr8.net for alot more info on the G8's.

Unless i find a great deal on a V, my next car will be a G8.

i looked into buying a ctsv or g8 a couple of months ago. g8s were all out of my price range, around $20k and no manual trans. ctsv was still as quick and i loved the suede interior. like someone mentioned earlier, the better rearends are in the '06s, but u may find an earlier one that may have had warranty work and already had the rearend replaced. either way, u will be good with either one.

Best part about this question is there is no wrong answer.

Both cars have different perks, but probably come down to personal choice, ultimately. If I had to choose between the two, I'd probably just flip a coin.

CTS-V!!! Even though they are both great choices! Less cash = more cash for mods

Hell its crossed my mind to sell the z and get a ctsv. But I can keep the z and in a few years when the new truck is paid for we may get the new one.

I agree with his points. Seems like you can't really go wrong with either but I really, really dislike the looks of the G8. There is something just so aggressive looking about the V which is hard to find in a car IMO. Things that like make me really like a car, and when its got the nut to back up the looks, well then, that's a pretty good bet. Sorry, but the G8 does nothing for me. I think they're both respectable in terms of performance though, as already mentioned but I would never own a G8, it would never get consideration from me. A CTS-V already has. Didn't buy one before I already have a daily driver.
