Maxing out a bolt-on only car (stock heads, stock cam, NA)
#41
Did a search and it looks like most full bolt on cars make peak power around 6200 or so which is about 200-300 rpm under what most cam cars peak. That would put shift points around 6500-6600 i would think and trap rpm around 6900 -7000 under optimum conditions. So 4.56 with 28 in tire would allow 127mph @7000 rpm. I believe you said you had some 4.56 so that should work. Should put you around 6700-6800 if you can trap 123-125.

6200 for SI car sounds a little too high. stock peak is around 5200....id say 5800 is the norm peak power for full boltons. i wouldnt go much past 6200 RPM, the stock springs cant take that RPM not to mention the power will fall off big time and negate any gains from the gearing.
6200-6300 is pushing those parts as is.

Well ,I found several people in the dyno section that made peak power around 6000 -6100 with full bolt ons to include fast intake. That's where I got the info because I didn't know. I was wondering and had asked you Magnet what your shift points and peak were but you never answered. I am interested in this myself because I may be trying to do the same thing. Are you not allowed fresh valve springs? I have not seen an official bolt ons rules list and wondered who verifies peoples mods anyway. Based on what you are saying about stock peak power ,the factory shift points for an auto car are about 6000 which is 800 rpm above peak by your info. So what is everyones shifts points and trap rpm and what gear and tire with full bolt ons?

My bolt-on car made peak power at 6128, and I shifted it at 6500. That was with the 100% bone stock valvetrain, and I never had an issue. Link to dyno numbers
Magnent, don't be a *****. Shift it at 6500 if you want to go fast.

This was in a thread about SI M6 shift points which you posted in Insane02. You said you shift yours at 6200, which is 700rpm past your peak. I am assuming you shift that high for good recovery on the shift which I would think more gear would be optimal then. I thought the norm would be 300-400 above peak with optimal gearing. What gear do you run? I am thinking about doing a stock internal setup and just trying to figure out based on everyones experience so far what the optimal gearing, tire, shift points and trap rpm would be.

Lol, this is my thread from back in the day. Idk how you copied that into this thread, but it left out all kinds of stuff. Matt D is the ONLY one in that entire thread who said he peaked at 6128 and shifted at 6500. Every single other person shifted below 6200.
For the record Matt D's car was fast for sure, but it ran 10.6's on a shot of nitrous, not stock internal.

Oh and btw, I shift closer to 6400 now

I just looked at it. Looks like the fastest A4 car is around 10.80 but weighed 2900lbs. The fastest anyone with 3300-3400 race weight has gone is 11.40- 11.50 and they had 3.23 -3.73 gears. I was wanting to get in the 11.30 range with my 01 without gutting car out. Looks like it is an attainable goal.

I have TSP duals w/ bullets, but will most likely pull the mufflers and run just the X at the track.. mostly for the weight lol

I did find this from Ls1 Joe way back in the day:

whats up cuz i wonder how many cheaters are actually on that list. Its pretty cool to think you are following all the rules and running mph with the fastest on the list. After your mod list you are gona be installing soon i think your best option is going to be weight it might not be hp at the motor but power to weight ratio is what matters. Its funny to see people sugest rockers, smaller gaskets, port matching, balancing rotating assembly and so on its good ideas but its not allowed! Its not as easy as it looks i tried for two years and got advise from you and every si guy and i gave up i couldnt get it to go any faster. i sometime wish i didnt give up so soon. I ran a 1.59 60ft 7.62 1/8 and 12.007 at 113.89mph + 2000d/a 3250 raceweight and my shift points all screwed up 110,000 mile motor getting valve float above 6000rpm
