Default 3 popular Fernco couplers(aka smooth bellows) and 1 new one

These are the 3 main different smooth bellow couplers I've seen people using.

The SLP type

The most recent is this new type

This is the old 3x3 Fernco that usually has to be heated to fit.

Finally this last one is the type I have on my car.

This is a stepped coupler that goes from 3.5" to 4" yet it's a little smoother than the other stepped couplers. I think the part number is 1059-33, found it on this website http://www.pep-plastic.com/manufacturers/fernco/

Added updated pics of coupler, TB, and MAF with measurements in a post farther down.

That "new" type is from Airflowsystems, and has been around for ~3+ years.

Cheap, too, at only ~$15 for it, give or take, and only needs very minor trimming for it to fit perfect.

Do you have any pics of it on your car?

The part number you listed calls out a 3.95" x 3.51" ??
Are those inside diameters?

That stepped Fernco is also what SLP ships after cutting
off the 3" part (with an X-Acto knife, from the looks of mine)
with their 85mm MAF.

I never was able to find a way to order this part number from
Fernco, they never did return my calls or emails about buying
or distributors. Do you have a source identified? 'Cause this
3" - 3.5" cut down is a pretty ideal solution for the 85mm folks.

I have a stock size lid and TB and it fit great.
Far as size here's the product sheet with dimensions.

Also no pics, but I've had it on my car now for about 2 years and it's like the
3x3 fernco but no heating was required to fit it, just the trimming.
I ordered mine thru Home Depot with a lot of trouble from the idiot that worked there. It was $15 or something with a $3-4 shipping handling charge because it was a special order.

Fernco has a site though and I would think you could order it directly thru them or they could tell you one of their distributers to order it thru?
Order from Fernco

The Fernco couplers are just thick rubber, so razor blade knife or sharp sissors.

I'm still confused because you talk about a 3" to 3.5" fernco but the product data sheet shows the dimensions for one that is almost 3.5" to 4". Isn't the 4" too big for a stock TB or Lid?

The 3.5" end is perfect for 85mm, the other end
(whatever the size) is a throwaway.

Uh, none of those are new. I have a picture somewhere from 1999 or 2000 of Brooke's formula w/ that stepped Fernco. I looked at one at Home Depot, and the big end seems pretty big. I just used a trimmed/heated 3x3, but later took it off since is pretty much does nothing. Good luck to ya, though.

Update on the sizes.

I took some pics of the TB and MAF meter to show why this coupler works so well.
The TB outside diameter is actually about 4" and the MAF meter OD is 3.5"
The stepped Fernco coupler is ~4" and ~3.5"

Pics are half way down the page showing the coupler with measurements.
