Just ordered my Street heat stage 2 yesterday, I was on the phone twice with Martin for 30 min each time making sure I had the right parts and picking the perfect cam for my 1980 LQ9 build. Never seen customer service like this before. The guys at Tick really want to help you with your build, not just sell parts. Thanks for all the help Martin

Hmm, you have an aftermarket casting cylinder correct? If so you'll need a longer push rod than what you have. I can get you set up with what you'll need for free because I'm pretty sure I told you to run the 7.400's without even thinking about you having aftermarket castings.

You ordered a complete cam package correct?

For those that are following. Called Martin and easy to deal with. All is good. Dart Pro 1 205s are on stock specs. All is good.

hey Yun Gunz? do you sound like this?

This was the very next day after my complete top end cam install..everything new except the rockers and the and the heads.

You can hear it towards the beginning more so than the rest of the vid....but if you know what your listening for you can here the noisey valve train.

sometimes its louder than what you hear...It may just be me soo....but i'll have it looked at some point.

Unfortunately it seems that a few customers have some valve train noise. All the cam installs we've done with torque max cams aside from stroked383 have been dead quiet as I showed in the video of the gto we recently did. I honestly can't say what is causing it for those that are experiencing it.. We used the same method on stroked383's build for installation and push rod measurement as we have done for all the other installs we've done for years now. While it is nothing to be concerned about in terms of performance, reliability or maintenance... it is very annoying to me and I'm sure the customer as well.

that was a politically correct answer..LOL its all good.
As long as the statement above stand true Im ok with it....Ive gotten use to the noise but if it can be lesser then im good for that too. I'll bring it to the shop sometime and have it looked at. Maybe the rockers need adjusting or something. I dunno. I need a retune anyways.

have good one.

back to the nitrous install.

People modifying these engines and other engines for years have experienced valve train noise as a side effect of faster opening and closing ramps that aftermarket cams utilize. Unfortunately the stock rockers can't be adjusted, but a different length push rod would change lifter pre load possibly quieting the noise.

I have honestly forgot what mine sounds like lmao. After installing bigger injectors, old belt basically falling apart(was pretty new but had a big tear in it) and loading on my trailer it fouled the plugs. So just letting it sit til Monday when the tuner has it in his hands. The sound was new to my car. Just old setup to new there are different noises and tones lol.

jimbo, and what would you say it could be? motor was very quite, never made a sound....until I had the topend cam install and no its not the mileage cause i did the topend package at 207000 miles. its got NEW lifters, pushrods, cam, injectors, oil pump, timing chain very low mileage PRC heads with 650 springs that i got off a user on here and what ever else goes along with a topend package. Its all topend noise cause ive crawled under the car on stands while its running and the bottom end is quite and can be.

any idea guys?

Damn that thing is still going strong that is for sure! Remember what I said about what push rod I thought it needed, but they said otherwise? Maybe we can try a different length push rod and see what happens. You know our number boy give us a call!!!

Good thread here.

Every video sounds amazing.

I only saw one question in here relating specifically to the 5.3, but I will ask anyway....

I have a '72 Chevelle I'm building with a 5.3 from a '99 truck. With that said, this Chevelle will be a weekend toy with some 'giddy up. I currently have a 2.73 rear but also have a 3.08 gears that I can throw in. It has a 5 speed from a BMW that I've retrofitted, so the 2.73 or 3.08's can be made to run similar to 3.42's or 3.73's due to a lower first gear. With that said, I am leaning towards the Torque max stage 2. Do you feel that is doable, or would I be better going with the stage 1?

Thanks again.

Doug

Doug,

With the 5.3 I would go with the LS2 Stage 1 which is 223/231 .610"/.617" 110+2. It will work much better for a 5.3 and run well with your gearing.

Thanks for the reply.

And you suggested this over the stage 2 ls2 for what reason? Would the engine suffer if I went stage 2? I'm also guessing that with the 110 ICL it will have a nice lope to it? Any videos of one installed?

Thanks!
