Default Opinions on this cam

Little background:

The truck is a 2010 CCSB 4x4. 6.2, full bolt ons with a super loose Circle D 3400 multidisk. It has the 6l80 and 3.42 gears. Right now on a 125 shot, the truck is in the 12.5 range.

I've been spec'd one cam and wasn't pleased with it at all. It was a 222/230 .597/.601 112 on EPS lobes. A friend has a cam out of his 6.0 spec'd by Pat G (231 235 .617.620 113+2) and this is along the lines of what I was originally wanting for the truck. It's for sale, and I'm seriously debating buying it. I'm just afraid with the 3.42s I wont have enough gear. I'll be shifting around 6800 no matter what. Any comments are welcome.

I was running a similar (but larger) cam with my stock 3.46 gears in the Goat. Gears were never a problem for me, but it was a 6-spd car. The 6L80 has pretty steep gears in it compared to most autos, which will make up for some of your lack of gear ratio. I would think you would be OK with that cam for a while, it's still what I would consider a medium sized cam.

4.02, 2.36, 1.53, 1.15, 0.85, and 0.67:1 are the ratios in the 6L80. BTW, that moving for a CC 4x4!

I'm no expert, but that sounds like a good cam for an LS3-headed vehicle. Not a lot of overlap, and good intake duration. Because of the deep 1st gear on the 6L80, the 3.42 gears should be a pretty good gear.

I agree. How do you like the stall converter? It should help the truck get moving. Just wondering. I have a 6.0 CC 4x4 truck that I want to build up. 3.42's on a 4x4 sounds high. My truck has 4.10's .

I love the stall. It's extremely loose and flashes to 4k or so on the bottle. The 3.42s really aren't bad with the 6 speed. I'll be going with 4.10s when I can find someone close that I trust to do a gear swap.

i'm surprised that the 3.42's came stock. Mines an HD I think they install the 4.10's for towing capacity. I'm thinking they do it on the 1500's for better gas mileage. Has the truck been tuned? Mines a dog with the stock tune the torque mangement is killing it. Oh well the truck has 120k and no problems so far.

Tuned by Casey Rance. Truck is running in the 12.5 range right now...

Ok. I'm going to buy HP Tuners and try it myself, or have Flaco tune it. I need to learn how myself. Your truck is running good. I have an old N20 system from my car that I want to put on my truck. I'm thinking some new valve springs a mild cam , headers and a tune will help my truck a bunch. thinking a convertor after reading your post.

Your HD has a 4L80E has a 2.48 first gear ratio. The 6L80E has a 4.02 first gear ratio. THAT's why the two trucks have different rear gears. The final drive ratio in first gear for your truck is a 10.2:1, where the final drive ratio for the half ton is 13.74:1, or close to 30% better than yours even though it's got "fuel mileage" gears. That's the beauty of a 6 speed transmission over a 4 speed. I'm too lazy to find the high gear ratios, but my guess is that the 1500 also has a more fuel-friendly final drive ratio in the highest overdrive than the 4th gear ratio of a 4L80/4.10 combo.

6l80E:
4.02, 2.36, 1.53, 1.15, .85, .67

4L80E:
2.48, 1.48, 1.00, .75

We definitly have a huge advantage with the 6L80.
