I know everyone has opinions on which shifter is the fastest or best. All I really need to know is which one will help me from missing the 2nd-3rd shift so much. Also I think I heard one of them helped protect something from bending in the transmission(I could be wrong on the bending part). If that is correct will this particular one also help with my 2nd-3rd shift? Thanks for any help.

the hurst shifter and SLP shift **** worked great for me. just practice. if you have something retarded like a big old cue ball or hurst t-handle for a shift **** then throw it away and get something you can gip confortably. i let a friend borrow my SLP shift **** and it actually improved her shifting and was able to bring down 1/8 mile times by almost 2 tenths. the gains sound unreal but ya gotta consider the aftermarket handle she had looked cool but it felt akward.

DO NOT GET A PRO 5.0, I recommend the Hurst Billet Plus, after owning both.
The Pro 5.0 doesnt always center correct between 3/4 causeing 2/3 misses. I never had that problem with my Hurst.
Bump stops are what your talking about but lots of guys just take them out. You would have to try and push the shifter through the dash to bend it the forks

Hurst shifters are nice, along with Pro5.0 and the B&M shifter that I've got.
When I first got my car and raced it, I remember a couple times where I went to slam 3rd and landed stuck in that netherworld between 3rd and 5th. The first mod I did to my car was a new shifter, and I can honestly say I've never missed 3rd since I put it in 3 years ago.
I've only got experience with B&M shifters, but I can say that although the stick is only and inch or so shorter than stock, the throw became shorter and still shifted surprising smooth. It's also quiet like the stocker, and I'm only saying this because I've heard a few guys complaining that their Pro5.0's were a bit clicky and noisy when driving normally.
Like stevo9398 said, shift ***** are important. Get a comfortable one that you can get a good grip on. I, like stevo, bought the ridiculously overpriced SLP **** lol. Don't get me wrong, its a really nice quality and comfortable ****, but I'm sure theres other great one's out there for 1/3 the price.

I recently brought a Pro 5.0 from a member here and I love it, I used to miss shifts all the time with the sloppy factory shifter but haven't had any missed shifts since installing the Pro 5.0. I agree with AChotrod that the Pro 5.0 is notchy shifting but it lets you know exactly when you're in gear and I like it.

And just a heads up. You keep missin that 2-3 and you WILL be putting a 3-4 shift fork in your trans.
Best thing to catch the 2-3 is a good shifter and practice.
Keep your hand flat, ungrip the **** and lift your fingers up and push straight forward with your palm.
