If you are shifting with a means, then you will not shift into 1st. Especially if you use the palm method. Its pretty difficult to get it into 1st if you want to go to 3rd. The shifter just doesnt want to move that way.
Maybe I shouldnt of said cant but its pretty damn hard to do a 2-1 shift when you intend to do a 2-3 shift.
Youve got to feel it to understand what I mean really. Maybe someone else can chime in on how it feels to them.

Basically, you just use your palm to shift rather than grabbing the shifter with all your fingers like a monkey eating a banana. It just makes it easier for the shifter to work rather than you trying to point and shoot the shifter into each gear.
Thats the way that I do it. Its more comfortable for me to do it because Ive got big hands and if I grab the shifter I can only use my first two fingers and thumb and awkward for me.

Learn to appreciate the car for what it is stock and then make note of its short comings and try to improve them. The #1 thing most manual guys do is get a shifter. It was my first true mod and nothing else has made the car more enjoyable than it until I get some go fast mods.

No. Not really. Im not going to say its truly a must have but its a damn great mod. Especially once you learn the car and how it reacts you'll want a shifter that you arent afraid of screwing up your car with a missed shift.
I have done a few 2-1 shifts with the stock hurst shifter even after getting used to the car and the last one is what made me choose to get the shifter. Getting onto the interstate with some loud pedal and going from 2nd to 1 at like 50-55 is a little iffy.

I've never even come close to a 2-1 shift but I have ruined a head on a 3-2 shift at 8k before. I just noticed they are in Augusta, maybe I should drive down there in see if they'll let me try one. I hope they pay you for all the publicity and FAQ you are giving them.

Fortunalty for me both 2-1 shifts I did, I noticed it and didnt clutch out. Done a few 3-2s as well and one let the car shoot up past the rev limit.
No payment but it would be nice. They arent a sponser here so someone has to answer some questions for them.

wow really wish i would have found this thread when I bought my t/a while I was on leave last month lol, cause I had alot of probs with the 2-3rd shift going wot. And the shifter not centering itself very well, that fixes a prob that I didnt like alot about my t/a. Now I will just add this to my parts list when I get back from iraq lol.

Y'all keep talking about 1-4 shifts. How does it do with 5 and 6 shifts? With how strong the detent is, does it try to make you do a 5-4 shift instead of wanting you to go to 6? I use my car for a weekend driver but hope to get back into autoccross someday and would like a shifter that is complacent but still sure shifting if this makes sense. Personaly I kinda like notchy shifts. My favorite was in a first gen Mitzu Eclipse.

The 6th gear shift is the hardest IMHO. If you keep the shifter pushed over itll glide right into 6th. However, if you pull it straight back itll want go back into 4th because of the strong centering action. It took me about 5-6 shifts to get it down right and now since its broke in, its much easier than stock because you dont have to fondle your buddies ***** to shift into 6th. ![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)

Thats not bad. Mustangs have quite a few ***** out there that look pretty sweet.
Right now, Ive got the 6 speed ball on it. I really like it but Im probably going to go back to the Hurst shifter soon. Feels much more natural and doesnt get scalding hot in the summer.

Youve got to pretty much find someone who is parting out or selling their stock Hurst shifter for the ****. I know that SLP sells the same one except it has a SLP logo instead of the H.

Thought it was something like that. Mine has the grey leather as well, just no logo. It is definatly a bare model Trans Am. Oxymoron anyone
? Like I said I used your pics as a basis of what I would like to look at/feel.

The other consideration I have is that with the ball the throw may seem to short so getting a little longer **** will help that alot (also from looking at your pics). Too short just feels wrong/uncomfortable but the stock set up doesn't feel right either. This consitered set up definatly seems like it will play right into my hand (so to speak).
