Default Tailshaft seal and loctite?

I need to put a new tailshaft seal in the T56 and I read some people use loctite on it. Do I need to put loctite on it? If so, what kind? A couple people referenced 609 and 620.

Any help?

Never heard of the practice.. The new seal will come with a sealant coating and is a "crush fit", so I don't know what loctite will add unless it's for folks trying to reuse a seal..

+1

Further, it will make it more difficult to remove next time it is replaced; well unless you want to torch it & melt it out.

I bought the seal from Napal. I was going to lube the outer part with trans fluid is this recommended? I cut a 2" dia. piece of PVC to beat it in with. I dropped the driveshaft last night then stopped.

Where did you get that from? Not only is that wrong, it may make it more difficult to install . Dry is the installation intended for these units.

We all know their not reputable, but:

Answer: Yes you just need a screw driver, locktite for the seal, the seal and something to press it on with like a large socket. We have customers call and do this quite often.

Looks like I will install it dry, unless told otherwise.
