This is really apples to oranges as 300 lbs is not far off from 500 lbs, and realistically the extra power the 2010 Camaro's LS3 has over the 4th Gens LS1 MORE than makes up for the difference. Most heads and cam only LS1's I have seen are in the 12's (there are sure to be a handfull that dip into the 11's). But any way you put it, the LS3 has a much higher potential than the LS1 ever did.
.
There are alot of heads cam ls1's running 11's. Yes I agree the ls3 has more potential, but Gm put it in a pig of a car! my 1sc stripper Z28 in sig is 3250lbs according to the data I have found. Fwiw Im a GM guy and will never own a stang, but Im unbiased and they imo are steppin up! Do you really think the 412hp gt @3500lbs is going to be slower than 426hp @ 39xxlbs?? hmmm ok whatever you say man... I do hope the new camaro is faster for god's sake lol

Stock to stock, LS1's ran high 13's, LS3's run high 12's. Thats more than just a slight improvement especially considering the extra weight.

And yes, the new Camaro is faster than the new Mustang.

"Mustang could still hustle to 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds and run through the 1/4-mile in 13.9 seconds at 102 mph."

"Camaro SS was the quickest car of the group by a wide margin, stomping 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and running through the 1/4-mile in 13.0 seconds at 111 mph."

You can call the new Camaro a pig, but this pig can still out run the lighter stang, and not just by a little.

And I would try taking your car to the scales to see what it actually weighs. I'd be very surprized if it only weighed what your research is claiming. Most guys with 4th gens are a bit heavier (myself included in both my 4th gens). My Z has a bit yanked out, and it still weighs 3440.

Well, Ben, that was the old 4.6 **** motor. With 100 hp more I imagine it will be as quick as the Camaro, or even faster. Nearly the same power and 400-500 lbs less is a nice combo! I have always been a GM guy, but afer sitting in and looking at the new Camaros and Mustangs, I just plain and simply LIKE the Mustang more. Now that they have a legitimate motor for it, it makes it very tempting. A 412 hp motor, 3500 lb car with 150 shot, full exhaust, ait intake, tune and DR's would be a fun daily driver probably be good for 525+rwhp and lots of torque I imagine...and should run in the low/mid 11's if it hooked

I just dont like the look or interior of the new Camaro. I LOVE the motors that GM has, and its impressive as hell that FORD is now making something kind of similar to the NA power that GM has. I think the next few years we are going to see some silly fast Camaros and Mustangs.

Ben-

The article you quoted is comparing 2010 models. Everyone in here is talking about the 2011 Mustang, which will come with a 412 hp 5.0L. Ford has narrowed that gap.

For the record, my car weighed 3500 exactly with 3/4 tank of gas when it was completely stock. It was weighed on a set of professional 4-corner scales, not your run of the mill truck scales. With me in it it was 3700. My car is (was) a full optioned car minus leather (5-speaker Bose, TC, power seat, etc).

Well don't I feel silly.

I will agree with SDB that the next few years will bring some fast cars from the factory.

But I still don't like the new Mustangs fast or not, nor will you ever see me owning one. I still think the new Camaro is hot, and full of potential and would love to own one.

I guess it depends on where you are weighing your car at.

Most of these guys are around the same weight as my 2 F-bodies;

I had friends with stock Grand Prix GTPs running 13.9s; I know for a fact that the LS1/6 Speed F-Bodies knocked down some low, low 13s. I'm with you other than that though.

I'm happy to see Ford stepping it up though, we need to keep the battle going.

Most guys in that thread are claiming weight w/ the driver. Everything I read are mostly 3400lb cars w/ out driver. If you like, google 02' 1sc 1sz stripper z28 and you will see thay are rated 3250lbs. The mustang I was talking about is the 2011gt and you knew that. The ls1's have ran low 13's stock plenty of times, you know that... Hell lt1's ran high 13's-low 14's stock. Im sorry my opinion offends you. lets move on lol...

It was all a generalization. F-body weight varies. I guess mine are heavy, but I know others as shown in the thread are also showing the same (avg 3500 lbs), I am sure some of the lightest ones may indeed weigh that much but I would not call your average F-body 3300 lbs.

The 1/4 mile times are average as well. Most LS1's that were stock that I knew ran high 13's. I also knew some that managed to get mid 13's and saw a couple in magazines that even managed to get low 13's. Based off of that, I would not say they all ran low 13's. I knew some LS1 autos running low 14's for that matter, and even some modded ones that had a hard time going faster than mid 13's.

This is a retarted argument. Agreed lets move on...

I never said ls1's avg 3300lbs. I said 3450lb in my beginning post, wich is only 50lbs difference than what you just posted! I did not say "all" ls1's ran low 13's either, I said they "have", meaning not all. Why do you keep twisting my posts around?? Also you talk all this apples to oranges stuff, But then you post ls3's run high 12's and ls1's run high 13's. Well buddy your comparing a 6sp ls3 time to a stock a4 ls1 time. Nice apples to apples comparison... A 6sp
ls1 just as digitalsolo pointed out will click off a low 13 more times than not. Yes obviously a stock a4 wont do that, especially with 2.73 gears, prolly a high 13 car. It seems as if your making bogus comparisons to try and prove me wrong...I want to drop this, but you keep reposting stuff I never claim, STOP the Insanity lols!
Ben, all bs aside I hope to see ya out in the z this year. It's been awhile since I herd that beast run!!

And in other news:

My old bumper mounting setup sucked, just like all aftermarket bumpers do. This system, while not particularly subtle, sucks MUCH less.

Wire meth kit and install tank and pump
Rewire gauge assembly
Rewire dashboard/ignition assembly.
Build new fixed seat brackets (to lower seats an inch or so)
Install driveshaft safety loop
Steam clean interior
Build adapter for oil temp sender

I'm sure there are a few other things, but nothing too major. I have more work to do on Nick and Drew's cars then mine at this point.

Having a hard time making a sale on my firebird. If you know anyone that wants a 6 speed LT1 send them my way. I have no idea why, but right now a guy is a questioning me why 20 psi at idle is low on an LT1.
