Default LS1 LS2 sawp on f-body

hi, i own a 2000 T/A with a ls1, m6. i am considering swaping out my LS1 for a LS2 out of a GTO or Vette. i was wondering what major challenges i would face in the trans plant. ideally i wouldlike to get an LS2 and rebuild it or just ad preformancce parts, (heads, cam, intake, the usual) then drop it in my T/A. any thoughts guys???

it should be pretty straight forward as far as dropping the engine in. because some camaros and trans am's came with the ls2 block form the factory.

No it was the ls6 block that they came with. some 01-02's had it. The ls2 is different from the ls1. I would imagine it's a swap that's more trouble than it's worth. for the couple grand you spend on an ls2 you could do some major work to your ls1 and have a lot more power and still spend less money.

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, like black said. You can get plenty of power out of your stock block, use the money on the motor you already have, and still have a matching # car with a correct odometer. My two cents.

head/cam package with the right intake would be way better than going through all that trouble.

Like said above. Use the money you have for upgrading the LS1. Really the only difference between Gen III and Gen VI blocks is the crank sensor is in the front on the Gen VI blocks, Gen VI uses a Timing chain tensioner. Theres more I just cant think of them off the top of my head. But both or aluminum so your not gaining or losing anything there. If you plan on swapping in a GenVI go LS3 and go huge. Just my two cents.

as someone who actually did a ls1 to ls2 swap in my own car the swap is so easy your gonna wonder y u did do it before. now in my situation i did buy an ls2 complete running with all of its covers. so half that list show is done the real change over that actually takes place is the extension cable for the cam position sensor and knock sensors witch people make premade cables for that so its litterly a plug and play system. and thats about the most change over u have to do along with a tune but thats it oh yea and make sure the motor has the correct reluctor wheel

I did it but only becuase I cracked my LS1 block. Otherwise I wouldn't have switched to the LS2.

What bottlefed01z28 is correct......I actually did a ls1 to ls2 swap in my own car (a 98 TA)the swap is easy . I did buy an ls2 long block with all of its covers. The real change is the extension cable for the cam position sensor and knock sensors witch I bought premade cables for that so its litterly a plug and play . Thats the most change you have to do along with a tune but you must make sure the motor has the correct reluctor wheel...... I put on my LS6 intake & TR 230 cam ...Crane dual springs... put down 435 at the wheels.... The reason I went with the LS2 is my LS1 ..the factory rocker broke & dumped the needle bearings in the motor.... hope this helps.. PM with any questions
