s10 ls1ers
hi, sorry to just break into the thread, but I'm close to finished with my LS1 swap and Im currently hung up on wiring... there is a mysterious yellow wire #710 on my 2001 s10 wiring that is for serial data, and I can't figure out where it attaches to the 2000 T/A LS1 wiring...it runs, but the gauges don't work and the engine kills after 2-5 seconds of running... if anyone has run into this problem or knows how to fix it, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks,
Ben

Thanks,
Ben

Only serial data wires I can think of are one to the instrument cluster on the TA (maybe your S10 has the same) and one to the obd2 port undr the dash (I think that one was tan or brown). As for only runniing a few seconds sounds like VATs (Vehicle anti-theft) its in the computer and has to be tuned out unless you have the BCM (body control module) from the TA and would proabably be more trouble than its worth to hook up.
It sounds like the passlock has you hung up. If you can tell me the connector and pin location on the pcm where that wire goes I can look it up on alldata at the shop tomorrow when I get in
let me try and get more specific on this wiring problem,
I'll start by saying that we have hooked up a snap-on diagnostic computer to the OBDII port and the only codes it was giving were things like o2 sensors not being right (because they aren't even in there yet...I don't think they stop the engine from running though)
as for VATS, the computer said ANTI THEFT:OFF, i dont know if that is indeed VATS, though...
Here are the wiring numbers, etc. that we have hooked up together right now:
Pin 59 on the S10 computer circuit 1049(Black side of computer)>>attached to>>Pin 58(Blue side)LS1 computer(this is a dark green wire) I'm not positive that is the correct hookup, but it seemed right, seeing as they were both circuit 1049, dark green wire...
As for the mystery wire, it is a yellow wire (circuit 710) that formerly went to the black side of the s10...it was used for serial data...maybe I am not looking for the right thing, but in all the schematics we have, there is only one serial data pin on the entire LS1 computer...leaving no room for this one.
if I didn't mention: Truck is 2001 LS with 2.2 4l60e and LS1 is 2000 T/A with 4l60e as well...

the pcm doesnt need serial data wires connected to run, if its quitting after starting then its either vats or a fueling problem
which gauges arent working? it sounds like you have more problems than just the engine not staying running...

Basically none of the gauges work... the fuel gauge is the only one that displays something, but it is off, because there is only like a gallon or 2 of gas in the tank, and it reads almost a half tank...
oil press...definitely didnt work...
temp gauge...umm, it doesnt run long enough to determine if that works or not...
voltage gauge may have worked also, but its been a week or two since it was started, so I cant remember. The main concerns that I have are the oil pressure gauge, and getting the odometer and shift indicator to work...those dont even turn on.
On the oil pressure note, what are LS1's supposed to have for an oil pressure range?? I heard that it was like 6 psi @1000 rpm and 25 psi @4500 rpm...
(next time im definitely paying someone else to wire it...live and learn...)

youre making it sound like the wiring is difficult... its not, its just a ton of work and you need to keep track of everything. i can help you go over some stuff if you want, get your little problem taken care of
say i use the vette fuel filter for the regulater, what would i need to do to make it fit to my blazer lines? use vette filter connectors and cut off the blazer ones?? if so whats the best way to attach them together.

any help with this please
I have all of the parts laying on the floor in the shop. For me I think I am just going to cut off the oem hardlines on the frame and then use compression unions withloctite on the threads to join the hardlines together.
You might consider it a lil too low budget but I'll tell yah what I did anyhow. I just stretched and slid stock camaro plastic tubing over the stock blazer steal lines about an inch and hose clamped it on...no problems for the past year and no leaks.
Laugh as you may but prior to gm offering the camaro lines as a serviceable assembly that's how we had to fix them 14 years ago when the ITT plastic lines started showing up in the dealership. Nothing low buck about it.
