At what power level on the LSX/ERL blocks with 6 bolt heads are larger head studs required?

Hello Fraser,

Could i send you my LS2 aluminum block in for your 385 short block, what would be the price with my block?

What would the compression be with stock cc LS3 heads? I would like 10:5 comp. and could mill the heads but would like to keep as much meat on the heads as possible.

Thanks, Todd.

$3245.00 + shipping

add: Surface block, $150 (recommended with used block)

To make 10.5:1 compression, need to mill heads .030" (64cc) and use factory MLS .053" thickness gasket.

let me know if you have any other questions?

LSX block, from what i've seen

MLS gaskets with 1/2" head studs (6bolt) 1800hp, gaskets leaked. Speaking from 3 similar builds.

Up to 1300hp area good time for upgrade to 1/2" head studs.

Over 1500hp i'd consider using copper head gaskets/O ring

I know several weeks ago he was out of the 3.8" C series cranks, only the drgonslayer were available. Did you ever receive more of the cranks Frasier? And is the 398" LS3 available yet?
Thanks

So what is the plan for newer built 390 engines? Only the dragonslayer option or will you be going with another company? If so could you post up the updated pricing?

Hey Fraser,

I may be in the market for a new shortblock and I like the idea of the ci somewhere close to 385-390 using my twin turbos (twin 60's that flow ~70 lb/min.). A little more detail on the car: 2002 Corvette, 6-speed, will probably use a "budget" type head, but thats still in question.

I like this shortblock:
New 390ci = $4550
6.0 Block
Callies Compstar H-beam rods
Callies Dragonslayer 3.800" crank
ARP main studs

Would this setup support somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000rwhp reliably? If not, what other specifics would you recommend? O-ring? 1/2" head studs? Also, if I supplied an LS2 block, what would the price look like vs you supplying it? Same with a iron 6.0.

If it were me and wanting 1000rw reliably I'd plan to do both the o-ring and 1/2" head studs... TFS 220cc as cast are a good budget head also.

I probably won't do either of them.
I've had shops that build/tune many 1,000rwhp cars and they said neither were necessary with a cylinder head with a thick (3/4") deck and good ARP studs.

that's fine I was just saying if it were me.. I figure 1/2" head studs are cheaper than a 6 bolt coversion.. good luck to you!

We have a few C-Series Cranks left

Have another 4 390 engines going together this week.

Expect a special to come out soon for a limited few 390 engines.

Very interesting thread. I'm in the process of selling my unused LS7 once sold i want to build a twin turbo LS3 motor. Didn't want to over stroke the motor to much and liked your early reply about the strenght of the pistons being better with the 3.8 stroke crank... I have a very light car (Even with a turbo'ed motor will be under 2400lbs) and therefore need it to rev very quickly to take advantage of the power. Can you build a complete bottom end as in recomended cam shaft and timiing gears ect ?? I do like the Mast heads but is there an alterative heads thats say alittle cheaper maybe under $1700 ??
Looking for 800-850 bhp at the flywheel.....

Ps will be using the Daily Dry Sump system as the engine needs to be very low in the car, I take it a Dry sump would also be better for a Turbo motor with a multi stage scavenge system Yes ???

Hi Fraser, what sort of coin would it take to get one of these bad boys over to Aus?
