317's on Ls1 block.. How Far Can They Be Milled?

Exclamation 317's on Ls1 block.. How Far Can They Be Milled?

how much can i safly take off my 317 heads? going on stock ls1 block...
going boost so im not looking for too high of compression, but want to know how much room i have to work with

.040", maybe more, but then you might start to run into problems with the intake bolts lining up....my heads have been milled about .050" but I'm running an aftermarket intake

Why would you want to mill 317's if your going boost? Those heads are ~71CC chambers and with MLS.052 gaskets that should net you ~9.5 compression.

thank you for the info, i understand the compression ratios, but im p&p them and want to know how much room the machine shop will have, probably going to end up with a 70cc

Roughly 1CC = .005 mill

If you are trying to get those heads to a 70cc chamber it would be about a .010" mill. The heads themselves can be milled much farther then that if needed, but it also depends on cam spec as well.

thank you guys for all the info, i was only worried because ive heard people saying that the 317's couldnt be milled too much, but thats what i wanted to hear

I've cut 317's .050 before. Any more than that and you WILL have intake issues.
