The gold part holds the stick and gets it positioned into the great place it is. If that wasnt there the shifter would feel like its in the passenger seat. I personally feel that is what makes the shifter so good. Its all straight line parts rather than a bent stick.
FYI you can run ANY type of stick you want. If you want to run a WS6 store short stick then you can. The shifter uses a clamp style to hold the stick in place. Its ROCK solid even two months after having it installed.

I just received my MGW and noticed that the placement of the gold annodized piece that holds that shaft on is different then some of the other mgw owners on tech. Just wondered if this was right or i need to move it before it gets installed. Here's a pick of mine

Hmm that is odd. I'm not sure you can fix that. I took the gold piece off of mine to see what it was bolted to and it's bolted to a solid piece of square steel that's thread in the center. I didn't go any farther with it. You have to rotate the whole square part to get the gold piece to rotate. Try it and let us know. Eat your Wheaties, because the allen bolt that holds the gold piece on is torqued down like a ****.

Yep, they all seem to be rotated a little off center one way or the other. I haven't seen one rotated quite as much as yours though. It probably won't affect shifting at all, it will just make 1st gear a little closer to the dash. Here's a pic of mine. Looks about like Meents:

I think im going to wait untill i can get in contact with mgw on monday before i tear into it. Just trying to figure out if im the only with that has it angled upwards like that. Seems like out of all the pictures of the fbody mgw shifters ive looked at they all look a tad bit different.

Yea, mine was pretty much a 90 degree angle from the shifter plate. I took off the center hex bolt as well and well it does NOTHING. I thought I was going to break the allen wrench trying to get it undone as well.
Id call them and ask as well as send them the email with a picture of it.

Amen my bro. The car I'm currently driving make a moaning sound sometimes. Its the brakes and its pretty loud, but there fine I've checked. My solution, just turn up the radio, who cares if people turn and look when when the sound gets loud
