Update: I talked to George over at MGW and he said that its turned like that because they were having problems with the earlier ones hitting the plastic on the center console. Its supposed to be facing upwards at about a 20% angle. Im going to go ahead and install it here this week and hopefully its works out fine.

nothing really, but I kept reading about how quiet it was, over and over in the thread... That just isnt something I ever even gave a thought to... just seemed kinda trivial, thats all. I mean no disrespect at all! To each their own... I was looking at this shifter as well, but only because of the throw... and position of the ****.

If you do some reading around in here about shifters, you'll quickly notice a pattern - those with a Pro 5.0 usually have something to say about noise, and it usually isn't a good thing. That's just one of the trade-offs - even my B&M Ripper was noisy compared to the MGW, and it wasn't even that bad, but I was still able to notice how much more quiet the MGW was over the B&M - stock quiet without the shitty, rubbery stock feel.

Here's just one example:

Understood, I have a Pro 5.0... I just never paid much attention to that.. I guess with the noise my Vindicator made, I just never paid much attention, or noticed the noisy shifter...

Well out of all the people who have the old MGW, did they notice this problem? Did you install it yet, how do you like the 20% angle?

Mine is completely fine. I pulled the console off about two weeks ago and there was no rubbing at all.

Probably something I should of done with the Hurst in the car but didnt even think about it until just now. I went and measured the actual throw. Now if someone could measure the Hurst and stock shifters we could get a good comparison.

MGW has a 1-2 throw of 3 1/4". Pretty much even shift is the same. I measured from the HVAC controls to the top middle part of the H on the Hurst shifter ****.

R is a chore to get to sometimes. Its a VERY delibrate move on the MGW that can put you in 5 if you arent paying attention as Ive done twice already and even killed it once.

That just about sold me. I pause to see if its going into the right gate since they feel different in the middle of the shift every time on 4-5, not conductive for any heated driving. As soon as I have enough Money I'm Thinking these folks are gonna get a jingle.

Does it have stops to prevent overshifting?

There are internal nonadjustable stops IIRC. IE, the shifter was engineered right as so you CANT overshift.

Well, I was about to get my 3rd or 4th pro 5.0 as I've been shifting for two years with a stock shifter with a billet short handle shaft. I didn't have the horrible noise with my Pro 5.0 as I used a good rtv on it I guess. I actually have no problems hitting 3rd in my TA right now, I just know I'm losing ET on my shifts, and I shift pretty frickin well. A guy I know who rebuilds T56's and works on Fbodys told me to just back those adjustment bolts out on a Pro 5.0. To be honest, I haven't had any trans issues and on my last Pro 5.0 shifted car I bent the shift fork, so I wonder if the shifter contributed to that (mine was adjusted per the instructions). So, I gotta consider this shifter if for no other reason, no adjustment.

No mechanical stops like on the Pro 5.0, B&M, etc. Just put it in, tighten the four bolts, and you're done.
