Wow, that GTO is impressive as hell. Any weight reduction or anything? I'm shocked that an auto H/C/I GTO was keeping up with a C6 Z06 from a 50 roll to those speeds. Something seems off but great video regardless.

BTW, was that Z06 driver not the owner? From the way the passenger was telling him to shift and slow down, it sounded like a son driving a father's car.

The GTO is at full weight, with me in the car it weighed in at Byron dragstrip a little over 3900lbs. And yes good guess , the Z06 is my father’s car and driving it was my younger brother. I currently hold the record for the state of IL with the fastest H/C/I full race weight GTO.

Im running a Mickey Thompson ET Street. and my trans is stock, I was told by a few trans builders that the stock 4L65E can hold 500RWHP, as long as you keep the fluid cool and dont burn it. So im running a big transcooler, and also a deep trans pan with fins to keep that fluid cold! I always change my trans fluid every oil change, about every 2,500 mi.

Yup I was there and my dad was there too in the C6 ZR1 inside there shop. I’m good friends with Larry; Speed Inc has done all the dyno tunning on my car. I highly recommend them to anyone! Larry and Jim and the rest of the crew are great people!

Great race and +1 on your GTO being very impressive!

Good luck on hitting your 10 second goal, it looks like you're well on your way to achieving that. Do you have any more mods planned in the future or are you just looking to crack that 10?

Hey buddy i dont know what to tell you, WE all though for sure the Z06 was going to pull me hard, I did a video the night before the race to see what my 60 to 150mph is, I know Im in the LOW 3sec range 0 to 60, and from 60 to 150 only takes my car around 14 sec. So 3+14 puts me around the 17sec range 0 to 150. So after i showed my dad that he was like humm.. well i think this will be close lol.
here is the video.

and here is a video of my car at byron, just the speedo, sorry for the zoom in.

I think the big yank PT 4400 converter eats some of my mph in the 1/4 mile.

To be honest, im not sure yet, Im still undecided if i want to pull the trigger and install the Stroker 416cid, or Just sell the GTO and get a Z06, You can find a 2006 C6 Z06 pretty darn cheap now a days and same with a C5 Z06. Still not sure, I love the GTO to death, have had it since 07 new, and has been a blast to build and drive. But when its all said and done its still just a GTO lol. A sleeper GTO that is

Very good drivers hit those traps in good weather. I've seen plenty of Z06's in the low 120's. Also, he said it was his brother driving their father's car so I'm thinking he's not banging gears like he stole it. I'm sure that GTO hits that number very consistently.

Either way you can't go wrong. Not many that will argue that getting a Z06 is a bad idea. However, having a badass sleeper of a GTO would be very fun as well. Can't really beat the comfort of the GTO either.

That's what I was thinking, as well. After seeing the 121 trap, it doesn't seem "off" at all anymore. A consistent 121 car should have results like we see here with a Z06 that has a non-owner driver or someone who's not necessarily bangin the hell out of those gears. 125-127 traps speeds aren't the norm from those Z06's; 125 is typically with a solid driver who knows the car and 127 is the ***** out in good weather with a great driver. That's just what I've seen anyways. I've also seen the majority of stock C6 Z06's at our closest track trap in the low 120s. Driver is such a big thing when you're talking about a manual car that's that fast.

LOL cant believe a GTO owner himself said that ^

I looked at GTO's before I got the V, they were alittle cheaper too. Wish I could have the exterior of the CTS-V with the interior of the GTO .
But I ended up going with the V and love it !

The C6 is a much nicer car, let alone the z06 is even better! you dont have the fun of having a sleeper, but you have a badass platform to start with.
