Default LS1 Mustang questions....

OK, so Ive looked around and cant find a GOOD website with some helpful things. Here's my main questions....

My car is a 92 Notch 4cyl/auto car. Im wanting to go LS1/T56. Nothing radical, say cam, intake, spray and exhaust......simple stuff LOL.

Whats the deal on the wiring??? Is it a PITA??? I heard there is a harness you can buy that is "plug-n-play" for the factory Mustang dash/interior/drivers side harness....is this true??? If so, whats the manufacturer, pricing, etc on it?

I assume the exhaust is a PITA to deal with and must be custom fabbed, correct? Can you purchase some LT's that only need slight mods/no mods and can be fitted to an aftermarket x-pipe/h-pipe?

what is the length on the Driveshaft????? Also, WTF driveshaft do you use...like swap yokes on a stock 5.0/5 speed one? swap the back yoke/U-joints on an LS1 alum. DS?

Is there a special tubular k-member that can be bought to make it drop right in?

Im REALLY new to this and Ive wanted to do one for a LONG time but Im now finally motivated to dig into it and see if its feasible in my garage. I suck at welding but if I can get most of it odne and say exhaust is all that needs welded, then i can let my suspension guy finish it up for me if need be. thanks!

This is a GOOD website, and searching (search button!) will yield the answers you need. Most of it is "hands on" fabrication that you can't just get one simple answer. I myself am in the middle of an LS1/T56 swap into a coupe. Not hard, just time consuming and my budget ran out for a bit, but now I'm back on track.

what info do you need to know??? take the measurments and give them to a shop that makes d/shafts. tell them you need a yoke for T-56 up front and that you're connecting it to an 8.8 or 9", or whatever you're using for a trans & rearend. that would be the easiest part i think of the swap i think. good luck with it.

edit*.......oh, and tell them you want either C/Moly or aluminum, whatever your budget allows.

Why not try it? A fox body is easy to find and cheap. Everybody seems to be doing it now!

thats a built 347 fox, supposed 450 hp at the flywheel, with a 3800 rpm stall
vs
01 WS6, bolt ons, LS6 cam, 3500 rpm converter.

who do you think has more money in their engine?

what do you think would happen if they swapped engines?

look at how easy it is to get 500+ flywheel horsepower out of an LS1. you don't even need to touch the stock bottom end.

THAT is why I wouldnt build a 5.0.

+1 and the fact that 500hp + stock bottom end 5.0 = split block

lol, it's pray hrd! you can do an LS1/2 with stock ls6 heads & a decent cam and you're already over 500fwhp. it's almost too easy to make that kind of power with these motors which is why there are soooo many 10sec heavy f-bodies on here. can't wait to make that power in my car and shed a bit more weight.

whats done to your car? I will be posting some new times here in a few weeks once we get the bugs worked out. Car has been 10.5 running out of gear well short of the traps on 255/40/17 drag radials. Mods are ms3 cam, long tubes, TH400, 3800 stall, 3.55 gears, 125 shot and some basic suspension work. It only dynoed 329 on motor (minus 7 degrees of timing for a 200 shot) and 432 on the 100 shot and weighed 2850. New 28" tall tires with only 15" rims and less interior should shed 100 lbs and we plan on upping to a 200 shot as well but I have to get used to the car first. Car dynoed at 390 on motor before changing from the 4l60 to the th400. I dont drive it on the street at all or go to the track that often so the 200 is mainly to see how fast it can really go. We are hoping to see 10's on motor so 9's should be attainable on a small shot.

MUSTANG GUYS...........

on corral.net, in the external section and or the misc section of the for sale area, there is a guy hooked up with a chassis shop producing front & rear moly tubular bumper supports that replace the bulky heavier units, shedding weight & still supporting the bumpers so like the nose doesn't cave in on the big end at speed. i just got one for the front since i do street drive, and it's supposed to drop about 20lbs. i got it for $65 shipped & it's only 3 lbs!!! there's a TON of guys on a list to get these. i don't know what the rear is supposed to weight, but it drops quite a bit too. for the price, it's a STEAL!!! the guys user name is 320man. i'm not sure if i can post a link to it, so i'll leave it up to you guys to find it.

NOT that much, which is why i posted it. boltons, th400 and a dual fogger 150 shot (tnt) rated at the wheels. dyno'd 430-450 on spray about 290-300 on motor through a 3800 stall. WITH 2.73's. weighs 3500lbs with me in it.

with that said if it had a gear and a taller tire weighing 2800 w/ me in it- well i'll let whoever do the math

but im not gonna do it, too much work and $.
