Default 89 suburban

1989 Chevy Suburban R1500 2wd

put a 2002 Chevy 4.8l out of a silverado into it.

Used the burbs 700r4 trans,

Motor was purchased complete with wiring harness, computer, fan, manifolds.

Have approximately 1800 into swap.

Quick run down for those doing the same or similar.

89 burb is the old old body style truck

used carshop inc 1" setback mounts and put the engine where the original trans did not move any.

also used the carshop fuel line fitting adapters.

the GM flexplate adapter and also purchased the bolts recommended but they were the same length as my current bolts it was part #11569956.

used the a/c delco EP381 fuel pump swapped right in.

for guages: oil pressure used the 4.8's sending unit and cut the wire on it and spliced in my 89 burb sending unit wire. works great.

Cooling the 89 burb has 2 coolant temp sensors the guage one is in the driverside head on the 350tbi one wire. used the s&p adapter to put it in the pass. head on the 4.8. no problems there.

voltage guage I did not touch used the wiring as the 4.8 came and just hooked up my battery wire to the alternator and it charges fine and volt guage works.

For wiring the engine followed the lt1swap.com page like a road map. Awesome info there and had Branden program my computer, sent it out monday got it back on friday works great. and great price too.
I used the newer model underhood fuse block I got from a junk truck for 20 bucks along with a mass air meter.

For the 700r4 transmission I used the Bowtie overdrive TV made easy kit for the tv cable. Great piece of enginerring, a little pricey but well worth it, and there customer service is outstanding.

for the lockup I used the tci lock up kit, another member advised to use the b&m kit, it cost more, but i should have done just that. The TCI kit uses vacumm to control lock up and the B&M uses a speed sensor. The TCI I have shuttles back and forth between lock and unlock all the time. Had to install the manual lock override switch to cruise. Hate having to flip a switch just to go down the highway without the convertor shuttling. Lesson learned here, hope others don't repeat my mistake.

I ordered a Novak a/c relocation kit for my r4 compressor just to avoid having to make new lines for saden compressor, buy a saden compress, and buy the brackets for them, and having to refill the suburban with freon. It holds about 5 pounds of freon so its pricey to refill.

That should cover most of it, any questions let me know will try my best to help. I got a lot of help from this board and the search feature.

Thanks,
Chris

1) 1970 Monte Carlo w/ Boss wheels (18" Front, 20" Rear)
2) L96, 6L90E
Wanted Mods: LS3 intake, New cam(unsure of spec yet) 9" w/3.42 or 3.73 gears
Hotchkis springs/shocks all around, ATS Tall Spindles,
C6 Z06 Brakes/Rotors, 08 GTO Seats, Flush mounted glass,
New custom headlights and LED Tail Lights, Shaved door handles,
New accessory drive brackets.... I think that is a good start.
3) Still working on starting a site and getting pictures.

I'm really taking the Ole' Hot Rod approach to this project in that I'm modifying what is already out there for this build..

Default disco camaro

1980 camaro losing the late model 5.7 and th350 for a lq4 and 700r4 using a holley carb to feed it and edlebrock intake and ignition. I did not want to deal with the wiring and gremlins that efi can present.

Talking 1971 Corzilla with L33 5.3L and 5 spd

I am in the process of reviving an old school rear drive 'rolla TE27. Target weight is 2000LBS and under 2000 dollars, including the price of the car! I have so far done all work myself including all welding, machining, designing, wiring, and soon to be painting. I will be purchasing HP Tuners so that I can put LS motors in all my cars. My 1972 Opel Manta will soon receive the same treatment. When my 310,000 mile 454 K3500 retires it'll get a 6.0L.
