Factory as in the 2004R?

M6 don't mean anything, I had to customize the Crossmember for that.

I think what hes saying is he wants to keep the stock tranny in the stock position so he doesnt have to modify his crossmember or his driveshaft.

The stock location adapter plates only sits the LSx in the original sbc's location, and with the vehicles stock tranny location theres going to be a gap. In order for you to retain the transmissions stock location you have to get the 1" setback plates, this has been discussed several times in the past. And you also need to understand that the stock tranny location is only useful if you're running the vehicles original trans, anything else is subject to fab and modifications.

Default Power steering pulley clearing on Gbody

So whose motor plates did you use, I have a set I baught that allow 1" forward, centered like sbc 350, and 1" back. i was told 1" back is the place for the pwer steering to clear???

My question is about the power steering lines. Should I use factory MCSS pressure and return, factory truck lines, or some combo of both? I know some people are running truck accessories so this has to be an easy question to answer.

I used custom mounts that replace the frame side, they were made by a member on the forum for his personal swap and I picked them up off him when he parted his cutlass out. They would probably position it close to the 1" back mounts.

Ok I have tried to do alot of reading on this and I am just going to ask it anyways. Me and my brother are starting to dump some money into the 85 MCSS and he wants, as do I, to do a lsx swap into the car. Well we both do not have alot of money to put into it. He'd rather do the lsx for the modern technology, better mpg capabilities and for the same reason I want to...for the wow factor. Well in saying that, if swapping a bone stock motor in there lets say a 5.3 or a 6.0 from a chevy van/silverado...can it be done relatively cheap?

I am not sure b/c I have read alot on headers but would the stock manifolds work or do you have to go with headers? Again Id love to do the lsx in it but being that it already has half the things inplace to do a old sbc 350 in there, that would be tempting to keep the cost down. We both arent mechanically inclined enough to do this on our own, so the help of others would be needed.

Down the road I want to convert it to the car intake and do the whole FRC and such to make it look good but to get the motor in there and running I can deal with the ugly truck intake for now. But with that, would the wiring harness need to be modified to mount the car style intake on it? would it be best to just wait for a car intake before doing it?

Im just stoked to start working on the car I just want to get better idea and all on guys whos done this before. ANd I know from past experience with the s10 that its easier to do engine upgrades with it out of the car but a stock 6.0 has enough power to hold us over for one year i would say, lol

depends on what you consider to be cheap. Vette or fbody factory exh manifolds will fit, the truck harness will work on either intake but you will need injector harness adapter when you decide to switch to the car intake. Truck intake will clear the hood if you get the correct frame and block mounts(short/wide). Look at the budget friendly sticky on page 1 and it will give you an idea of how to pull it off conservatively.

I just found and got a response for a lm7 5.3 full motor including wiring harness. Motor just needs a water pump but it dies have high miles 200k. Now here's why I smyrna interested in it...its in the truck still and they are chopping it up using parts off it from what they need. They told me 200 for the motor and wiring but than said they might just give it away to me with the cab forward BC they just want it gone. So I found get it for free than take the truck to the scrap yard and make hopefully most of the money it would have cost to buy the motor. Sou d like a decent deal?

Sounds like a good deal, but i would rebuild it, just so when you put the engine in the car, you can feel confident that it is going to last, and not break down on you. good deal though.

Total rebuild or like rings and bearings?

Might as well go complete, reconditioning stock rods/pistons, ARP rod bolts for added strength, clean the heads up with new seals, and seats ,better valve springs, add a cam, and LS7 lifters, full gasket set.
