how good are the LT1's vs LS1's

I own both right now. I love both cars, but if I had to part with one, the 00 Z would be leaving. It is hard to compete with the power of an LS1, but I don't race on a dyno . With just bolt on's my LS1 car made 353 rwhp and 363 rwtq before I added my ASP pulley. It has also run 12.5 on street tires, I had to have a small cam in my 94 to net those times, but I always loved the torque from LT1's. They are both great engines put in great cars, you'll be happy with either car.

It was well researched and makes tons of power, but once you go inside either one it's a toss up. Just my .02.
In response to the question, the only real concern on the LT1 is the opti. They were poorly located on the engine but hell, it's man made. It's not going to be perfect just like the egr tube on the LS1 and don't get me started on piston slap.
I know, the horse is dead. Don't beat him anymore.

I am not a dyno anything, have never used one, but allot of my friends with full bolt on LS1s with H/C have only put down 414, 424 and # of that nature, as i said above "from what ive seen" I dont give a **** what other people say, i only trust my friends as i know what they REALLY do to their cars, not some stranger on the internet. As for some higher numbers, maybe they use race fuel to get higher too, but like i said, that is the most i have seen for myself.
Thanks

And there are cam only LS1's out there that are 440+rwhp, and heads/cam LS1's over 500rwhp.
With that said, I would take the LS1. It is a better platform. Just wanted to throw my $.02 and the facts on the whole bolton vs bolton debate

oh crap here we go again, we should seriously sticky a ls1 vs. lt1 debate so all of you people can get your fill for arguing which is better
as for the original poster the LT1 is definitely a reliable motor that gets a bad rep from people thinking that distributors and water pumps last forever, a distributor goes out because it has 100,000 miles on it they replace it and then a couple months later it goes out again because the original 120,000 mile water pump is leaking on it

And there are how many of us that build what we got..I did the research on mine to get the parts that I have. And I guarantee it will rape your friend's cars and leave them cryin in a corner..
Try expanding your knowledge..
Back to the Thread..
The LT1 has nice Torque..but the LS1 responds to Mods alot better.
I built a LSX Stroker with alot of good parts in the mix..it has some helacious Torque and can still spin to 7,000RPM and put out gobs of power.
Depends on what you want..personally I want to the LSX Engines cause parts are plentiful and don't cost that much.

Get the LT1, cause who really wants to buy a car and then have to do body work on it. But if u can do the body work and like to do it then it may be worth it to u to get the LS1. But i'd say drive both of em and try to find out how the owners took care of them maintenence wise and such. I'd much rather have a nice, well maintained LT1 than a dogged out 10,000 mile over oil change LS1.

450+ rwhp is very common for h/c LS1s and some have hit 500.

Either car is a great choice IMO. But I would need better details about the two cars. I'd rather have a M6 LT1 than an A4 LS1. I just prefer the standard tranny. Do either of the cars have any mods done?? Mileage??? And you said the LS1 car needs body work, that can get expensive quick, even if you can do it yourself. Either of them would be a good choice if their in good working order.

END of discussion.
The real question here is money.

I must have missed the part about the car being messed up. Money is a factor, that's a given. If the LT1 is a M6, go with that, not with a beat on LS1.

Haha, One of my threads are in there. Yeah, a thread like this usually seems to cause an argument. I just bought an '96 Trans Am with an LT1 about 3 weeks ago. I had the chance to buy an LS1 Camaro but I kinda like the old LT1's. Not tryin' to dog on anyone who has an LSX in here, but I have spanked plenty of LS1's all around. Even with more mods then my LT1.
